The Mirtle book club
Fall is sort of like Oscar season for hockey books: All the great ones will be coming out in the next month or two, just in time for the Christmas buy up.
This year, there are some really intriguing options from a few Mirtle-blog favourites, so consider this an early heads up given these are all soon to be released:
- Future Greats and Heartbreaks: A Season Undercover in the Secret World of NHL Scouts
By Gare Joyce (Release date: Nov. 20, 2007) - King of Russia: A Year in the Russian Super League
By Dave King and Eric Duhatschek (Oct. 2, 2007) - Jonesy: The Improbable Career of Keith Jones
By John Buccigross, Keith Jones, and Ray Bourque (Sept. 25, 2007) - McCown's Law: The 100 Greatest Hockey Arguments
By Bob Mccown and Dave Naylor (Oct. 30, 2007) - Hockey Night In Canada: By The Numbers: From 00 to 99
By Scott Morrison (Nov. 28, 2007)
Joyce and Duhatschek are the must-reads for me.

Attention Hockey Book Publishers: I too will read your books and write about them. My audience is multiples smaller but I'm a good guy.
Speaking of Gare Joyce, what happened to 100 Games A Season? That was one of my favourite web-stops.
On a completely unrelated note, can anyone imagine McCown's book being any good?
Will he have those douche-y glasses on in his jacket sleeve picture?
Will the book just be about insulting the intelligence of his readers like he does to his listeners on the radio?
And how did Naylor get dragged into that project?
Gare Joyce rules! Too bad newspapers can't stand him because he is too honest and good. Scares advertisers away, I quess.
I can't wait to get my hands on his book.
McLown's book doesn't interest one bit. Guy uses shades when he needs braces.
Joyce is great, that book sounds very good. But McCown has no business writing about hockey.
Funny that you mentioned this - just this past weekend I fired off a bunch of e-mails to publishers to try and get copies of some books to review for the Fall.
Another two that may interest you (or not) are "Gretzky to Lemieux" by Ed Willies and "Walking with Legends" by Ralph Mellanby and Mike Brophy.
