Reebok responds

We've now got a corporate response to the jersey-gate business of earlier in the week:
After working with NHL players, teams, and equipment managers to gather feedback on the Rbk Edge uniform system, Reebok has decided to provide an alternative jersey to the players who request it.
The performance benefits of the Rbk Edge uniform system were proven during testing last season with 28 of 30 NHL teams. We are pleased that overall player feedback has been very positive. We will continue to work with NHL players to ensure they have the best hockey uniform possible.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't think of a single instance where a player has said he preferred the new jersey.

I wonder just how many of these alternates are going to be out there; perhaps the original prototype becomes the new uniform system?

At least fans get stuck with the old product, regardless of what their heroes are wearing.

Chris Drury said he liked the new jersey and wished they implemented it "10 years ago." He was talking about the fit, though, so I don't know how he feels about the material.

There's never going to be any change that pleases absolutely everybody. The new jerseys were a marketing decision that happens to have affected a couple of players in a practical manner. And, as in any similar situation, the players that are upset have been the loud ones that the media centres on.

That's not to say that there aren't little bugs to work out. But to say the entire thing is a scrap because a couple of guys whine isn't so bad.

And I don't get why people are upset about the tearing fabric anyways, since that's been fight-induced more than playing. If fighters are having trouble with their "art", then all those people who have been supporting banning/punishing fighting should be on RBK's side...

You have to wonder what RBK was thinking when they started to develop this moisture resistant fabric.

Last time I checked NHL hockey was played inside so there's no worry about rain.

But there is moisture and it's all coming from the player, friendly fire so to speak. RBK's war room made a mistake that makes George Bush look like a genius.

Most of these new sweaters look like PJs anyway.

At the beginning of the season I read an article here in Pittsburgh where some pf the Penguins players were saying that they liked the new jerseys, and they did a good job of whicking the moisture away, however, all that moisture was instead going into their gloves and skates and they didn't quite care for it too much. I haven't been following this too much, but at least they are providing alternative jerseys.

During yesterday's Rangers-Leafs pregame show, the Rangers announcer said that they were going back to the old jerseys. However, when they showed the locker room, the jerseys hanging up behind the players looked like the new material, just without the rounded bottom edges.

Some of the Ranger's uniforms have been modified. It seems that those who don't tuck them into their pants have had the rounded shirt tail sewn up.

I hope they get rid of the RBK Edge crap for good. This is the NHL not the freakin NFL. Jerseys are supposed to be big and flow when the players skate. Example, I tried on a Replica XXL Crosby with just a t-shirt on and I looked pregnant(I'm 5'11" 212). I can only imagine what I'd look like in the dead of winter with a " XXL Sweatshirt" on underneath this crap. How is it that I can buy a new Reebok Replica Brett Favre(my wifes fav) jersey for $75 but I have to pay $115 for a BLANK RBK EDGE hockey jersey? Last time I checked the NFL is more popular than the NHL. I grew up on Penguins hockey and Pirates baseball, I like football but my Love is Hockey! Reebok what the hell are you doin to the traditional hockey jerseys?????
