Well, that didn't take long ...

Definitely, this is a must-win for us, just for the mindset of everyone in the room ... if we play our game, we shouldn't have a problem with these guys at all.
— Maple Leafs defenceman Ian White

Game No. 10 and it's getting good in Toronto. A must-win! Against the nearly winless Thrashers no less.

Usually we have to wait for the playoffs for drama this good.

It can't hurt for a team who has missed the playoffs two years in a row to take this season serious early on. Points in October are as important as points in...

Where were you on the first Saturday of the season?

THAT game was already billed as a must-win by Cox and Co.

So far having games labelled as such has helped the Leafs this season so maybe they should treat them all as must win instead of becoming satisfied after one good game.

Maybe some journalist living in Toronto should try to distinguish themselves from the crowd by reporting on what's positive in Leaf land.

They could start by pointing out that the Leafs top four forwards have produced more points than the entire Edmonton Oiler forward roster. If you are looking for a team in a true state of disaster it's the Oilers. But I'm sure its hard to go it alone when you are bundled up nice and warm in the herd.

Why would Ian White get the Atlanta Thrahers motivated?

I would guess that White's comment is a symptom of what is wrong with this team - we should handle them no problem he says

Good point anon - as an Oilers' fan I am totally aware that the Oilers are terrible.

Obviously despite the Leafs coughing up game after game, including that sweetheart against a Chicago team playing their second in a back to back, you still have your head in the sand.

What positive should James focus on - so far the Leafs have been not much better then the Oilers, despite all of those points from their top four forwards.

Wow, I completely misread what White said. What an idiot. As if a struggling team wasn't a red flag as far as the Leafs go, their defensively challenged defencemen pokes the bear so to speak?

Guaranteed loss.

Agreed with Black Dog. Anon, how can you suggest that the media should focus on the Leafs' successes when clearly their lack of defense renders all positives on the forward and useless? If you're the Sens, you can brag about good scoring. But the Leafs should hide their head in shame because they are missing in action once the puck enters their own zone!
