Bertuzzi returns

The former Vancouver Canucks all-star winger finally makes his return to GM Place tonight, ending the fans' 17-month wait. Bertuzzi sat out with a back injury when his brief employers, the Florida Panthers and Detroit Red Wings, visited last season, and he was a scratch when the Anaheim Ducks rolled through Vancouver this preseason.
This one's on TSN tonight, for obvious reasons, and it'll be interesting to see what the crowd's reaction is.

Bertuzzi's been okay in his return from injury so far, but has played sparingly. Tonight will be just his 26th regular season game since he left Vancouver in the summer of 2006.

I don't know if it's been that "okay" -- he is playing the softest 5-on-5 minutes on the Ducks, and does have the worst goals-against rate at 5-on-5 on the team.

I'll call it "okay" when he stops bleeding goals-against. But not just yet.

I'm just talking about the last three games.

Even so, it's still not that rosy. Sure it's three assists, but those were largely scored despite Bertuzzi than because of Bertuzzi.

If he can become a passenger on a productive line, I'll take it at this point. It's still early on Bertuzzi's season, but there's little to suggest he'll be driving any good results.

Signing him to that deal was a mistake from the beginning; there's no way he can live up to those expectations, and anything in the range of a 25-goal, 50-point season has to be considered a plus.

It's not as though the Ducks have a ton of other options up front right now.

That's true. Still, wake me up if he ever gets to goal #2.

I watched that game last night and "Buttugly" was terrible. 0 shots on goal, 3 missed shots, just 1 hit, and -2. His negligence covering Markus Nilsson of all people led directly to the game-winning goal.

Anaheim was unlikable enough last year, when they had S.Niedermayer and Selanne, two class acts. Those guys have since been replaced by Schneider and Bertuzzi. This a very easy team to dislike. Hell, I was even rooting for the Canucks to clobber 'em.
