That's one thing Burke seems to care least about: ever picking in the second round.
So... a 25-year old, 4th-line/healthy scratch forward for a basement-dwelling team, with career highs of 14 goals, 30 points, and -5 is now worth a 2nd round pick in a deep draft?
Combined with dropping Ilya Bryzgalov on waivers last week, either something big is happening in Anaheim, or something weird (like Bryan Burke deciding nobody need be concerned with team minutae, like the backup goaltender or the 4th line, or what happens after the first round at the NHL draft).
If I had to wager a guess, it would be that this means Bertuzzi is going long term IR.
IF anybody has seen Sutherby play (last season that was possible) you can tell he skates/waddles like a duck so he'll fit right in.
This is typical Burke. During his tenure with Vancouver he continually traded away 2nd and 3rd round picks for marginal players - hoping to find a "diamond in the rough".
None of these trades ever produced anything significant - and only served to drastically deplete the Canucks farm system, while leaving Vancouver with a "boatload" full of 4th liners.
However, it did allow Burkie to keep his name in the news!!
