Emery injured

Ray Emery has been thrown another curveball in his attempt to earn more ice time in the Ottawa Senators' net.

Emery, already in coach John Paddock's doghouse for questionable work habits during practice, left the ice early on Monday with back spasms he says were originally caused by playing baseball during an off-day on Sunday.

Emery says something happened when he bent over to throw pop-ups.
This is quickly becoming a lost season for the netminder who took Ottawa to the finals, and the rumblings continue to grow that it will now be Emery traded rather than Martin Gerber, who has been fantastic this season.

Don't worry, Emery will just storm off down the Queensway and cut people off in his Hummer.

Dang. I jumped the gun and traded Gerber off of one my fantasy teams when Emery came off of the IR.

I for one am finding the Gerber bandwagon a little full right now. Especially when everyone is starstruck by a goalie who has never achieved a single thing in the playoffs.

The lineup for the Emery bandwagon is a little lighter right now, but a lot of people will regret bailing out on him when it's not even December!

When a team is 14-2, you don't change anything. Not even the water bottles in the dressing room. What's the best case scenario for trading anyone right now? The team wins the overwhelming majority of its games...? Barring a major downturn in either's performance or a falling out, don't look for anything to happen until the off season.

Well, he has been to three of the last four cup finals. Even if that's just blind luck, that's more than a lot of guys bring.

Not sure it's just luck. Gerber was the better CAR goalie in the regular season but lost his job to Cam Ward after getting hurt just before the playoffs.
For my money, the telling incident with Ray Emery wasn't the traffic incidents, the questionable choice in mask art, or Paddock questioning his work ethic. It was last year when he threw down with Andrew Peters. Not another goalie. A goon. And nobody stepped in. Either the Senators skaters are a world-class collection of cowards (possible) or they were deliberately hanging Emery out to dry (my bet).

That's not Emery's team mates hanging him out to dry. Emery's tough, smiling the whole way through the fight. Emery played with a bunch of those guys in the AHL. From all I've heard they are actually a pretty tight nit bunch. Rayzor was up in Whistler on the team retreat last year and some friends of mine hung with the group all weekend long. Again, by all accounts, a major locker room guy who is very personable. Also, Emery happens to be an ass kicker. If he wants to fight somebody, which he clearly did in the Peters situation, I don't see too many people thinking it would be a good idea to pull him off.

not only that, but who was on the ice? heatley, spezza, et al; and i for one don't think they're better at fighting than emery.

I saw the fight and Emery called Biron out to centre ice, whilst everyone was scraping elsewhere and when Biron got a pounding from Emery, Peters decided it might best to get his goalie out of there and take Emery on himself. Emery seemed to find the whole episode very amusing!
