JR hits 500

San Jose Sharks veteran center Jeremy Roenick tonight became just the 40th player in NHL history to reach the historic 500-goal plateau, scoring his milestone marker against Alex Auld of the Phoenix Coyotes at HP Pavilion.

He becomes just the third U.S.-born player to reach the milestone, behind the Dallas Stars Mike Modano (511) and former NHLer Joe Mullen (502). In addition, the nine-time NHL All-Star ranks 40th in goal scoring and 44th in points on the NHL’s all-time lists.

Among U.S.-born players, “JR” ranks third in goals (500), third in points (1180), third in games played (1,267) and sixth in assists (680).

Good for him — especially considering, for a long, long time, it looked like this night would never come.

...Jeremy Roenick is a man fueled by passion for the game & i stand to salute he & his latest accomplishment...i hope his great heart helps lead the Sharks to a measure of their potential...

...i wanted to see J R come to the team years ago, when he was a younger player, but i'm glad he's here now...he adds a valuable component even at this stage of his career...

...i live in Sharks territory nowadays, but the year i left the Toronto area was the last time the Leafs won the Cup...

Pretty classy to give the puck to the GM. I have always liked Roenick, even when he was a dick. That is no small piece of his career and he gave it away. Good for him.

Too bad he had a bad last few years, he would well ahead of Modano.
