I blame video games.
These kids probably learned everything in school(yard)
Boogard Fighting Camp Class of 2017 in the house.
That is revolting.
Has anyone done any research on the consumption of energy drinks, like Red Bull, etc. and the rise of such incidents? I officiate all age levels and have noticed more and more 9 and 10 year-olds telling me off or their opponents, all in the past few years. I even had a 9 year-old once tell me "I sucked" when I whistled him for an obvious trip.
Now before you tell me that all officials deserve this or should expect it or even blame the U.S. culture, I am convinced that the belligerence of kids is rising. I see vending machines in the rinks selling this stuff.

I don't know about kids and caffeine, but I know that some doctors are concerned about the levels of caffeine that teenagers are consuming in energy drinks, sodas, and coffee. If I remember the article, the doctors were concerned that excessive caffeine was affecting behaviour and long-term mental development, as well as messing with normal sleep-wake patterns and everything that feeds into that.
I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, though. I think everyone knows someone who doesn't handle caffeine well and when they have coffee they are cranky, irritable, and feistier than normal.
I would almost suggest using twos for unsportsmanlike to get the little shits to smarten up, but I have a feeling you'd wind up spending the whole game 3-on-3 and get fired.
Not just caffeine but sugar too.
I know I sound like an old crank but you can put nearly all of the blame on the parents. Too many haven't the foggiest and don't discipline their kids for the least bit of lip. I used to coach hockey and soccer - this was in the late 80s/early 90s - rarely had a problem but the parents were all on the same page. No lip.

Black Dog, you may actually be an old crank but not because you think that way. I am 24 and I feel the same way. Kids get away with murder because parents are too afraid to discipline them.
