Suspension No. 6, in the works

The Philadelphia Flyers recalled forward Steve Downie from their American Hockey League affiliate the Phantoms on Tuesday.
Good grief is this getting predictable.

Really hope the league follows through on their threats about punishing the organization if/when something happens...

It may be a good time to refresh everyone's memory that Downie, although he regretted McAmmond's injury, (1) did not actually think he did anything wrong, (2) said he would continue to "play his game", and (3) has probably not been disavowed of (1) or (2) by anyone in the Flyers' org.

In the real world, if a workplace experienced 5 serious injuries because of the actions of one particular contractor, all other groups of workers would either walk off the job or petition to have the dangerous crew removed.
Why does the NHLPA stand silent while its membership suffers injuries that threaten seasons and careers.
I hope Patrice Bergeron's inevitable lawsuit names the PA as a defendent

Why are you guy player hating on downine? you should love Downie. So should the NHL. Who besides Crosby has been written about more before his first NHL game?

If Downie commits a suspendable infraction, Bettman should through the book, hell the whole library, at the franchise.

This kid's fuse is so short and I am sure there are more than a few players who would dearly love to light it - it's too too easy.

Let's just hope no one gets hurt. This is an incident just waiting to happen.

That's moronic.
I don't want to read about that. I'd rather the NHL get no attention at all.

You seem like you may have been hit by Downie yourself..

why shouldn't they call him up? he's their first round draft pick. he made one of the worst hits in recent years, yes, but sometimes it seems like people forget this is contact hockey. if you don't want players in the league that have the potential to injure people then watch the russian super league. dangerous play should never be the goal of any play, and the flyers have crossed the line in that respect a few times this season, but all the rage about how violent they are should really remember that this is the national hockey league we are talking about, a league that will soon be a contact-free league in about 10 years if current trends keep progressing.

So should we start a Downie Suspendable Offence Pool?

I've got Dec. 13 vs. the Habs!

When do they play the Penguins next?

I'll bet he goes after Crosby's head (or maybe knee) to really make his reputation. Anything else is small potatoes.
