King Crosby

What a terrific picture. There's something about the snowfall that made the day, even if the game play really wasn't all that great.

William Houston has a good look at the broadcasts of the spectacle.

And I know I've said this before but the fans in Buffalo are really second to none. As far as I'm concerned, Hockeytown USA is just down the QEW.

Hmm, I didn't watch the game, so I was glad to learn from Houston's article that Hughson and Simpson called the game for the Mother Corp. Whew. Finally.

Hey, thanks for the Buffalo props Mirtle! I was lucky enough to attend the Ice Bowl, and it was incredible. It was a pretty darn good day for hockey, but it was an awesome day for Buffalo.

Enough with the attempts to steal someone else's label. Buffalo should be Hockeyland USA, due to their proximity to Leafland. The attempts to give away Detroit's moniker are getting old. (And the TV ratings in Detroit are a testament to that-- up 56% over last year YTD). I think we should be happy that Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Buffalo are as strong as they are instead contributing to the one-upmanship!

Detroit's what? Four times larger than Buffalo?

Per person, the Sabres have the best fanbase in the league right now. The fact the team merchandise sales are outpacing those of the local NFL team says it all.

Yeah but...

I'm too lazy to look up your ~20 yr attendance chart. How does Buffalo look over an extended time period?

Actually I do hate these kinds of discussions though. I'm thrilled Buffalo is a great market! I'm thrilled that the franchise was saved after the gross mismanagement of the last owner. I'd prefer to add up the strong US markets, bundle them up and point out to the nonbelievers that there are PLENTY of Americans who love the game.

PS Did you change the comments submission form again? I can't figure out how not to post as anonymous! Or w/o putting a site down that clearly doesn't belong to me! :)

Well, I'd imagine that's easy to do when the Bills have been sucking for the past 7 or so years, and the Sabres have been pretty good the past few years. Not to mention they don't have a baseball or basketball team to compete with, either.
