The Western all-stars

The NHL released the full rosters for the Western Conference today at noon.

The team looks reasonably close to the one I put together yesterday, with a few tweaks to try and fit in a player from every team.

Players missing: Ilya Bryzgalov, Brent Burns, Derek Morris, Mike Ribeiro, Brenden Morrow, Patrick Sharp, Kristian Huselius, Jonathan Toews*

Players on team: Manny Legace, Duncan Keith, Ed Jovanovski, Jason Arnott, Marian Gaborik, Anze Kopitar, Rick Nash, Henrik Sedin

No one really undeserving there, although I do think Sharp or Patrick Kane should have been the 'Hawks representative. Keith and Jovanovski have quietly had strong seasons, however, and I would have also had Sedin or Nash in place of the injured Toews.

I'd be surprised if Nabokov goes. Johnny needs some rest!

Somewhat surprised statistically with Keith over Sharp (Kane was easy to drop because he'll be in the Young Stars game), but after watching a Montreal-Chicago game where Keith was by leaps and bounds the best player on the ice, I fully endorse the choice. He's quite possibly the most underrated player in the game, so this is some surprising recognition for his play.

Agreed on Keith, pleasantly surprised to find him on the team. I watched him quietly dominate a game here in Edmonton last year, picked him in my hockey pool this October and have been keeping an eye on him since. He's a beauty.

So is Sharp, whose shorthanded stats (9 GF, 3 GA when he's on the ice) defy belief. Too bad there's not room for both, but I guess the league had to find room for a token Blue Jacket. (Just kidding, Anonymous Jackets fan, tho' I had to laugh when both Horcoff and Nash made the squad -- both deservedly IMO. Despite your admonitions Horcoff too is one hell of a player and has earned his spot.)
