From reality TV to the NHL

Making the Cut, the Canadian reality series, has finally started to reveal some elite-calibre prospects, as the Florida Panthers (Mike Keenan's old club) had one graduate, David Brine, skate in his first NHL game on Saturday.

I've got more on Brine and the show's second season winner, Franklin MacDonald, over at Globe on Hockey.

Thanks for the note. Making the Cut does have a pretty good product IMO. As long as they can keep upping the ante with the quality of prospects, they'll be more believable as an actual star vehicle a la (apologies in advance) American Idol. Until the public can buy into the idea that a player they see develop on the show can make it in the NHL, this show won't be what it can.
