Linesman injured in Philadelphia
It was a typically feisty meeting between these rivals as several fights broke out. Six players dropped their gloves at one point in a very physical second period.Kukla's Korner has more.
Linesman Pat Dapuzzo left the game after he was hit in the face by Steve Downie's skate following a hard check by Rangers defenseman Fedor Tyutin against the boards.
While Dapuzzo was helped off the ice, leaving behind a trail of blood, a brawl ensued. Downie exchanged blows with Tyutin; Riley Cote and Colton Orr traded shots, and Jim Dowd and Ryan Hollweg went at it.

Looks like Riley Cote could use some more of those fighting lessons.
Pretty classless of the Flyers taking advantage of an injured linesman to start three fights.
I know it's fashionable to blame the flyers for just about anything this season, but this one pushes the envelope. Not even the Rangers announcers saw this as an example of the big, bad Flyers. Both sides were equally responsible for the game's lack of discipline. And, as it happens, PIMs were 44 Rangers, 32 Flyers thanks to the truly classless Sean Avery's 10-minute misconduct.
Downie might not have been able to get away with beating up on a non-fighter like Tyutin if the linesman had been ok. This just seems like another gutless fight from a kid with a bad temper.
I understand it was an accident, but this kid is reckless. There is no reason his legs needed to come up high enough to hit someone in the face. Keep control of your body, don't dangerously flail your legs up around head level to avoid going down.
This guy doesn't belong in the league.

hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Downie is an All-Star. Flyers are the most exciting team to watch in the nhl instead the euro crap loverfest in detriot.
Downie should lose the visor...
"Downie should lose the visor..."
it's apart of the trademark.
I guess if you can react to a perfectly clean check by chasing down the checker and starting a fight while wearing a visor it must mean they got rid of the instigator penalty but forgot to tell anyone.
I happened to see that happen to the linseman on centre ice, and it was pretty nasty-looking.
I hope he's okay.
Poor Downey, even when he's not being a total idiot he still manages to maim people with his inherent stupidity.
Why doesn't he retire?
I also notice from the boxscore that no misconducts were handed out on that play. Normally the second and third fights would get ejections all around. Bit of 80s officiating there.
I understand being a hardnosed hockey player with a nasty side but downie really needs to respect people a bit more. Trying to drive Tyutins head into the ice is going a bit to far (somebody really needs) to set this punk straight for going after non-fighters(again)and to top it off trying to maim the guy.
We need to make "Cage Steve Downie" T-shirts.

Your Flyers ginch are so tight they're cutting off circulating to your brain.

is anyone saying this about Jokinen? I'm not trying to offend him, but if this is being said about Downie, it should be said about Jokinen. Simply put, it was a complete accident, the way these two players were hit, it seems they had no control on how their legs moved. Both happened so fast that it could not be stopped. They are freak accidents, and let's let it be.
On another note, this game was very heated the entire time. The rangers (chris avery especially) were as much at fault as the flyers were (mike richards got into some scraps as well, and that never happens) In an atlantic division race as tight as this one, and with the number of times the teams play each other, things are bound to get heated. You can't blame one party for the events of saturday.
I'm sure no one complaining about downie was complaining about the dangerous hit laroque laid on him a little over a week ago.
