The Rangers have moved prospect netminder Al Montoya and Marcel Hossa to Phoenix for Fred Sjostrom, David LeNeveu and Josh Gratton.

I don't think it's so much they are giving up on him as they are set now with Lundqvist.

Kind of a shame for the kid as he goes from one team who's now set in goal to another that appears to be set with Bryzgalov. Kid can't get a break.

How is this "giving up" on Montoya? The Rangers just signed someone who has shown signs of being an elite goaltender, to a long expensive contract. There's no room for Montoya, regardless of whether he can be projected as a starter.

So they did what a lot of teams do - swap 1st rounders that have yet to reach their potential.

Was there a rush to deal Montoya? Just curious if his minor league deal was up and they had to move him. Why not wait until the off season?

Same was as SJS gave up on Kiprusoff and Toskala.

I wonder if Al wishes he could play that last year at Michigan?
