Report: Stars to acquire Richards

The Dallas Stars will acquire Tampa Bay Lightning center Brad Richards in a multi-player trade ... an executive within the league said Monday night. The Stars have looked to make a splash since Les Jackson and Brett Hull took over in the co-general manager role for the fired Doug Armstrong earlier this season. The source said Dallas is expected to package veteran checking center Jeff Halpern, backup goalie Mike Smith and young defenseman Mark Fistric to the Lightning.
Well, he's reporting this one as a soon-to-be done deal, and the Richards-to-Dallas rumours have been coming early and often the past week or so.

I'm going to wait for more official confirmation before offering more.

as a Stars fan, very surprised to see Halpern and Fistric in the deal in lieu of Jokinen and Boucher. Probably would have preferred it the latter way, as i'm not sure how Jokinen fits in on this team anymore.

will be very interesting to see what kind of effect Richards has on the Stars, where he plays, etc. if the deal does indeed happen. I can tell any TB fans out there that you are getting a very good one in Mike Smith.

I'm happy for Smith. He has looked like a number 1 goalie all year and now he'll get his shot. I'm kinda surprised that this is the best offer Tampa got though.

I wonder if this was the only deal that included what Tampa considered to be a legit goaltender for the next few years. The other contracts might have been tossed in to make the dollars work more than anything else.

Tampa has needed goaltending for years.

If this proves true James....I am VERY giddy that you broke this before the talking heads at TSN. Nothing excites me more than the prospect of those guys filling 8 hours with another Mike Sillinger trade, because all the "big" names have been resigned, or are not waivong their no-trade.

.....It serves TSN right, by the way, for creating all of the trade rumours in the first place. Is it evident that I don't care for TSN's overindulgence of hockey coverage?

This potential deal is a WINNER for both teams. Richards loads the Dallas front, and in my humble opinion, makes them the team to beat. Smith is a "Keeper" in more ways than one.If, of course, Torts lets him do his thing.
