That bruising isn't nearly as bad as I'd have figured.
Also Richard has got one smoking lady on his arm. Way to go, Zednik.
I can't even imagine how scared his wife was when she was told to sit down and heard "severed carotid artery." I don't know whether I'd be more scared to watch him play when he returns, or more scared not to see the games.
Thank goodness their kid wasn't watching on television though.
This is a story that could have had a very different ending if it weren't for the good work of the trainers, paramedics and doctors. To see him walking out of the hospital mere days later is amazing.
And yeah, no doubt Richard had lots to live for, judging by the photo.
in the spirit of deadspin: dude, YES, probably (surgeon salary)
No wonder he fought to live.
James, Could you possibly do a feature on the DOCTOR and Zednik's wife? I'm really interested.
And this would be non-story with neckguard.

As soon as we figure out how to cocoon the players in protective armor from head to toe, we'll never have to worry about danger & injury for our hockey players ever again. .... and, naturally, the complete absence of danger & injury will attract hordes of new fans to the sport without driving any of the existing fans away.
