Ovechkin hits 50
And 51 and 52, come to think of it.
It's about time, too. After a seven-game goalless streak, Alex Ovechkin's now got four goals (and counting) in his last two games, and is on pace for a 64-goal campaign.
UPDATE And with four points tonight, rookie Nicklas Backstrom has passed Patrick Kane in the rookie scoring race.
A big night for Washington in a few ways so far.
UPDATE The final is a 10-2 win for the Capitals, but newcomer Sergei Fedorov goes pointless and finishes at minus-1.

Still a lot of time for a 5 or 6 goal game...
That's 150 on the career. What's the record for "most goals, first three years"? Off the top of my head, I came up with these:
Lemieux - 145 G, 215 GP
Gretzky - 149 G, 239 GP
Bure - 154 G, 224 GP
He seems a lock to pass Bure.
Mike Bossy, maybe? 173 G, 228 GP.
Selanne only played 180 games with the Jets in his first three seasons and scored 123 goals mostly due to his ridiculous 76-goal rookie season. That accomplishment never seems to get much attention.
I wonder how Sergei will deal with playing in the shadow of Ovechkin. He always was a prima donna.
Gretzky scored 51, 55, and 92 in his first 3 NHL seasons; that's 198 goals... however, when we figure the conversion rate from early '80s hockey till today, Ovechkin's going to compare fairly favourably.
D'oh! You're right sager. I accidentally counted his first season with the Oilers... in the WHA.
