Sabres losing bodies

I'm sorry to say it, but the Buffalo Sabres are in big-time trouble and look now to be almost a lock to miss the postseason.

Already without Brian Campbell, who was traded to the Sharks, missing Jaroslav Spacek and Dmitri Kalinin with relatively long-term injuries, and about to lose to Pittsburgh, there's more bad news:
Buffalo Sabres defenceman Nathan Paetsch lay motionless on the ice for several minutes and was helped off the ice after being leveled by an elbow thrown by Pittsburgh’s Georges Laraque early in the second period Wednesday night.
It's been a tough, tough year for the Sabres, who may have a heckuva time keeping netminder Ryan Miller from unrestricted free agency in 2009.

Not many teams can put together a playoff push with four defencemen out of the lineup.

The Islanders are in no better shape, 10 regulars lost out of the opening night roster, 4 of whom were on the blueline.

Not a fun night for NY's other two hockey teams.

Okay, now that's just mean, Mirtle. We Sabres fans are plenty depressed as it is. Sigh.

Mirtle, I like your strategy of helping out the Leafs by demoralizing their opponents in 3 of their last 10 games.

Now write some terrible stuff about the Bruins please.

At least the NHL dropped the hammer with a whole 3 game suspension on Laracque. That amounts to at least 15 minutes of playing time for knocking out Paetsch.
