The end for Olaf?
Goaltender Olie Kolzig removed his nameplate from his locker here at Verizon Center after tonight's 3-2 overtime loss to Philly. Kolzig declined to speak to reporters, but that gesture seems to say it all about his future with the organization.
If George McPhee doesn't acquire a goaltender, does this team even make the playoffs?

Thought Versus here in the US did a poor job by not noting that last night might've been Kolzig's final game. Not enough career wins and playoff success for the HOF, but when you look at players in the modern era with at least 300 wins he's got an impressive body of work: 6th best GAA and 7th best save %.
Maybe McPhee should have acquired a defenseman. I know, easier said than done, but Jurcina was a disaster in this series. In fact, other than Green, who's an impressive, if not amazing, player, I'm not sure any of the Caps' blueliners distinguished themselves in this series. Weak defense around the next was their downfall.
I'm now convinced that Mike Green will be a superstar in this league. I'd be giggling with excitement about him if I were a Caps fan.
As for filling the goaltender position, as James pointed out in a previous blog post related to Ray Emery, there's going to be no shortage of available applicants and a small supply of jobs this offseason, so they probably won't have to break the bank.
If they're looking for a potential long-term solution, I wouldn't be surprised if they went to the Bob Gainey well again, as they did with Huet, and make a trade for Jaroslav Halak. They've already consummated a goaltender trade that worked out favorably on both sides, so the relationship is there and Halak has a very good reputation right now.
