Oilers re-sign Gilbert

I'll have more info as it becomes available.

Yesterday, Tom Gilbert was named as a member of the Team USA entry at next month's world championship. He had a very strong season in Edmonton after Sheldon Souray went down and was one of a few restricted free agents the Oilers had to sign in the off-season.

UPDATE TSN says six years at around $4-million per.

Details James?!? No word anywhere in Edmonton. Hope it's 4 years $3 mill per. I'll be happy with that.

There's going to be a press conference at 11 a.m. Alberta time, so everything will be out of the bag then. I'm sure you'll hear soon.

Nilsson ... signed a three-year, $5.5 million contract.

The Edmonton Oilers have locked up defenceman Tom Gilbert and forward Robert Nilsson to multi-year deals.

You've got to believe the Oilers are going to have the best chance to win the division (injuries not withstanding) next year. They've got the deepest defence in the league with Chorney and Wild coming up behind them and Petry still in college. Plus they got good goaltending and two excellent scoring lines, and a very productive fourth line.

They may have trouble signing everyone though, especially with Horcoff's contract up next year, you never know whether the cap will keep going up. Pitkanen and Torres (via trade) may be the odd men out if they can't sign everyone.
