Predators bow out

Tough game-winning goal for Nashville 'tender Dan Ellis to allow after he was brilliant throughout the series:

Detroit will face either Calgary or Colorado, depending on who wins the Sharks-Flames series.

Almost exactly like Lidstrom on Cloutier in 2002 (video here). What are the chances of the same guy scoring from that far out twice in the first round of the playoffs, and it being vital to the outcome of the series each time?

Not only is Osgood better than Hasek, but it looks like the team is playing better in front of him. (Small sample size alert.) The last two games, they looked like the juggernaut from the middle of the regular season. If they keep playing like that, no one in the West is going to beat them.

There's a big difference with that Cloutier goal, in that today's shot redirected when it bounced off the ice. I remember that goal against Vancouver, and it was more of a straight-forward slapshot.

Tough break for Ellis to be sure, although he's certainly earned himself a few million dollars with his play over the last month. He'll be an unrestricted free agent unless he agrees to an extension with Nashville prior to July 1.

This ex-goalie agrees with The Forechecker. The Vancouver goal was 100% on Cloutier, whereas today I would almost say Ellis had no chance on that howitzer from hell. Just a wicked hop. Looking at the video, I wonder, did Franzen tip it?

No chance for Ellis on that one.

I never thought I'd see the day that I actually agree with John Garrett. :(
