“My groin area is sore and swollen,” said Patrick Thoresen. “I can’t really walk properly right now. It hurts.Thoresen didn't, in fact, play this afternoon, but he's expected to reappear sometime in the first-round series with the Capitals.
“The chance (of playing today) is there because there is nothing wrong right now. It’s just a matter of pain. Right now it doesn’t feel like I am ready to go because I am very sore. But I will keep icing the area today and keep trying to get the swelling down and we will see how I feel.”
And it's a good thing his teammates can joke about it after the fact. "When you take a puck to the (groin) it hurts," said Kimmo Timonen. "It kills you. But Scandinavians are tough."
"Maybe it will inspire us or something," Mike Knuble said.
The netminder has them all beat:
Goaltender Martin Biron revealed he wears two protective cups, one over the other, because he faces this sort of risk every night.Between this and Richard Zednik last month, it's sort of been a year for horrific injuries.
“Every man in this locker room should be amazed by (Thoresen's) quick response,” Biron said. “I guess that's why at my first day of pro camp they told me to wear two cups. That was good advice.”
