Florida inches closer to first title
Florida Panthers General Manager Jacques Martin announced today that the club has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with RW Wade Belak.
“Wade is a high character, hard working player and versatile player who immediately made an impact on our team last season,” said Martin. “He provides our club with a tremendous physical presence and we look forward to his continued contributions to our team both on and off the ice for the next two years.”Give Belak credit: He's stayed in the league, without playing in the minors, for about a decade despite his talent level. In Toronto, he was always well-liked and I think that went a long way to him sticking around here as long as he did.>> team release
Belak's played 442 regular season games over 11 years and has eight goals and 29 points.

Good for Belak. He's a great guy and your facetious post-title was totally unwarranted James ;)
Just kidding. Thank God JFJ got canned. He wanted to re-sign Wade!
Good for Wade. One of the good guys
Good for him, while I did like him in Toronto, playing a regular shift each game is all he wanted and I'm glad he's getting the opportunity.
He does a wicked impression of Domi.
The problem for Belak is that he can't take a regular shift without taking dumb penalties. His challenge is to stay out of the box long enough to get in a fight.
I don't think he's dirty, just clumsy.
Not so clumsy as to not prepare himself before heading into the woods at the golf couse. He grabbed Blundell's golf towel before eliminating the 4 pints of guiness and 6 egg salad sandwiches. It was polite of him to return it discreetly into a pocket of the radio personality's golf bag after he was finished borrowing it. (We'll miss you, Wade.)
Has there ever been a more offensively inept qualifier for the NHLPA's pension plan (400+ GP)?
Even the most O-challenged Dmen like Mike Milbury and Rod Langway had more points.
Heck, I'd be willing to bet at least 10 goalies have more career points in the same number of games.
Of course, the Pt/TOI gearheads will argue that Belak's 29 points in 400 games of playing :57 per game works out to 4 pts per 60 mins, ranking him among the game's all-time great scoring threats.
/gratuitous shot at stats junkies
