Game 6

Stanley Cup final
(1) Detroit v. (2) Pittsburgh
Red Wings lead series 3-2
"We are going to do what we always do. The biggest thing is clearing your mind, remembering that the only people that can help you are the people in the room. ... If we can create normalcy, I think we win."
"Let's make sure, this our last game in Pittsburgh, (that) we're going to really make sure that it's going to be pretty special."
On the blogs today:

Matt Saler at On the Wings: "...the Wings need to start better. They didn’t do that Monday night and in the end it killed them. They have to bring the hammer down on the Pens early and then keep it there until that final buzzer."

The Pensblog: "The last thing anyone needs to see is the Red Wings winning the Stanley Cup on the Mellon Arena ice. ... In a building that has given us everything this season, we need one more. One more friendly bounce from the old lady."

Bill the sailor at Abel to Yzerman: "I’ll tell you this. I’m not looking forward to it. Not one bit. I know I have to watch it and I will. But it’s gonna suck right up until the end. Unless the Wings blow them out. Sweet Little Adorable Baby Jesus, please make it so."

After a chat with Hurricanes defenceman Bret Hedican this afternoon, FanHouse has another live blog going tonight, while Seth Rorabaugh will be behind the controls at Empty Netters.

My natural inclination to go with Detroit, given that they're a veteran team and teams in Pittsburgh's position usually are burned-out after Game 5.

But this is a different case: Detroit was 34 seconds away from skating the Cup. Detroit seemed to be rolling in the 3rd period and 1st OT, but the Pens out-shot (and frankly, out-puck-possessed) them in 2nd and 3rd OTs. Pittsburgh has the emotional lift that they persevered through the Gonchar and Malone injuries, and they haven't had the special teams advantage once yet in this series (it was even last night). Add to that the emergence of Fleury and the team's belief in him, and you've got a potential "perfect storm" for a 7-game win.

Let's also realize--Pittsburgh isn't Nashville or Dallas.

My money's on the Pens tonight.

50-50 split, eh?

I broke it by voting Pitt, because of their home record, even though I had Wings in 6 going in. So...yeah, this is me and the entire hockey world collectively shrugging its shoulders and going "I durno."

Well, sweet baby Jesus didn't give us a blowout; in fact he made it very interesting up until the very last tenth of a second. But it's now clear that sweet baby Jesus is indeed a Wings fan! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
