Hall of Fame announcement
The Hockey Hall of Fame will hold a media conference call announcing the 2008 Inductees today at 3:30 p.m., ET. Bill Hay, Chairman of the Board, and Jim Gregory, Chairman of the Selection Committee, will host the conference call. In addition, the 2008 Inductees will be invited to participate on the call. For more information on Induction bylaws, eligible players, and history go to www.hhof.com.A list of eligible players can be found online at the Hall of Fame's website. We'll know in a little under two hours who the three or four inductees are.
I'm a little under the weather today, but I'll get the names up here as soon as possible. Yesterday's poll has Igor Larionov (selected by 49% of voters), Pavel Bure (44%), Glenn Anderson (34%), Doug Gilmour (31%) and Adam Oates (30%) as the top vote getters.
UPDATE Larionov and Anderson are the 2008 player inductees. Ed Chynoweth is inducted as a builder, and Ray Scapinello is inducted as an official.
Their accomplishments and bios are available here.

One name that got no consideration yesterday that also should have been in the conversation was Rogie Vachon. Over 300 wins, over 50 shutouts, 3 Stanley Cups and a Canada Cup.
Sadly no induction for Oatesy. Do you guys think he will get in one of these days?
And you missed Cullimore in the veterans' category.
Good for Anderson. He's an ass but he has plenty of company in the Hall. In terms of hockey ability he deserves it.

No kidding.
Surprised there were only two players put in. I thought it was normally three or four?
@saskhab: I think Robert Lefebrve (Eyes on the Prize) and Lowetide were both pulling for Rogie, but no dice. LT was also championing Mark Howe.

Anderson in?
I take it the stick boy from the '67 Leaves wasn't available?
Time to start beating the drums for Howe for next year.
Yes! Now I can finally stop reading the "Why isnt Glenn Anderson in the Hall" stories! Guess there was a benefit to the lockout after all.

Yeah, how dare players that played on a team that won 4 cups in the 60s get to the Hall of Fame...

Amen.
Only 2 inductees? That can't be encouraging for guys like Dino, Dougie, Oates, Howe or Vachon.
Pete Stemkowski is hoping next year the Hall finally comes calling.
Jim McKenny, you'll have to wait.
I'm just glad Igor made it in. My all-time favorite player.
Anderson's a former Leaf, so natch.
