Avery does Dallas
Sean Avery has signed a four-year contract for $15.5-million with the Stars.
We've been hearing Dallas was chasing Avery all day, and they get it done despite the fact many teams were in the running. The Stars had just $5.5-million cap space to play with this off-season, and really only needed a forward or two to fill out their lineup.
On a scoring line, Avery can be a much bigger contributer than he has been in the past, and Dallas should have room for him alongside Brad Richards on a pretty good second line.
In addition to his pesty-ness, Avery's solid against strong opposition, plays well defensively and is young enough to have some upside. All in all, a good signing and not too outrageous a deal.
“We are excited about the opportunity to add a player like Sean Avery to our group,” said Stars Co-General Manager Brett Hull. “His ability to play the game with skill and tenacity makes us a better team and is a great complement to the players we have here.”
Mike Heika's been following the Avery trail all day.

Wow. Mr. Fashion's act is really going to play well in Dallas.
Further cementing the notion that there are only two things that come from Texas.
Any truth to the rumor that he might be roommates with T.O. and Pacman Jones and film a reality TV show?
...Dallas, home of Neiman Marcus?
Maybe he saw Guy Carbonneau's designer tie and decided to sign in Dallas as that's where Mrs. Carbonneau picked it up.
[Insert fashion joke here]
I get it, guys!
Love the title. I'll now think of him as Debbie.
