Miller signs long term in Buffalo
There will be no contract issue lingering over Ryan Miller's season. The Buffalo Sabres announced today they have signed their goaltender to a five-year contract extension that takes him through the 2013-14 season. Terms have not been disclosed.I can hear a sigh of relief from Sabres fans.
UPDATE The goalie carousel next summer is going to be interesting given how many unrestricted free agent goaltenders are out there: Backstrom, Gerber, Biron, Thomas, Legace, Garon, Khabibulin, Conklin, LaBarbera, Niittymaki, Fernandez, etc.
With that many teams looking to sign netminders next July 1, Miller would have received quite a contract.
UPDATE It's a $31.25-million deal, with a $6.25-million cap hit. Steep, but that's what it would have taken to keep him.

Why didn't you just make "Sign of Relief" the headline, James? *grin*
Whooo hooooo! Finally, Sabs front office does something right. Sign Pommer and this offseason might not be too bad.
The policy they had in place about extending contracts was foolish. This proves they know they screwed up with Briere and Drury.
I think Darcy coming out and saying that they made a mistake with Drury proved that they knew they screwed up with Drury.
WGR reporting 32.5 at 6.5 over 5 years.
WGR can't add- 6.25 a season, same total though.
With the money Huet got this year, I'd say $6.25 is a reasonable price for Miller.
Guess he's worth a mil more than Brodeur.
