Richards: Lightning 'turned into a joke'

"The ownership was never intact all year. They had no budget to try and make the team better. Hockey got really bad. It went from a class organization to what turned into a joke. It was tough to see, tough."
I remember when the Lightning came through Toronto on New Year's Day, there were an awful lot of long faces in the Tampa dressing room. Richards, in particular, was picked on a bit by the media horde, singled out for an ugly minus-23 rating.

On a related note, Craig Custance is doing a nice job with the Sporting News Today feature with new NHL content even in late July. Check it out.

Craig Custance was the Thrashers beat reporter for the Atlanta Journal Constitution for the last couple of years and did an excellent job. He stayed on Waddell so much last season that he was banned from the Thrashers end of season town hall meeting.
