Spezza's new digs

Here's a peek at Jason Spezza's latest big purchase:
Mr. Curran did not disclose details, but many in the Ottawa real estate community report that the 25-year-old is buying "Stone Manor," a copper-roofed mansion built two years ago for beauty-products manufacturer Randi Shinder. A report in the Citizen in June said the house, listed for $6 million, was the most expensive property on the Ottawa market.
That's a pretty impressive starter home.

The handy mortgage calculator on the real estate agent's website says our monthly payments will be only "$28,778.43 based on a 30 year fixed rate of 6% with 20% down."

Anyone have a spare $1.2-million to plunk down?

The listing states it "is without a doubt one of the finest built houses in Canada" and there's even a built-in hockey room. More shots from the interior are available here.

In any event, a good investment for Spezza. At least we know how he used his $4-million signing bonus.

Wow, that's all $6 million will get you in Ottawa? That's as bad as Toronto.

What's Spezza really like? He comes off as a total airhead when I hear him in interviews.

Absolutely no privacy, tiny yard and a BRUTAL commute to SBP...not a very practical buy whatsoever...

I know it's been slow with real hockey news but c'mon James, I didn't expect you to pick up this story. It was bad enough when the local media picked it up.

I've heard where Jason Smith has bought his house. Want me to chase that information down for you too?

My 7 year old son's attention is normally elsewhere (understandably) when I am reading your site. The photo of the hockey room however produced a "Wow, that's so cool!"

Unfortunately probably not in the cards for his 8th birthday.

Or 9th.

Don't kid yourself Val. You're a freaking federal bureaucrat. I highly doubt you have anything more important to do.

One of the highest paid young Canadian athletes in history buys a $6-million house at 25 and that's not newsworthy?

At the very least, it's worth a blog post.

I wish Spezza would have bought my house. It has bigger yard, great commute to SBP, and all this for 10% of what he paid for his French manor.

Well, maybe Jarkko Ruutu needs a house...

Ah yes...I keep forgetting about my job to solve all the problems of the world.

Well said, plus the house is on the street corner.

Forget the house, hook me up with the Realtor for closer look at some other "fine properties."

Oh fools. Can you honestly say that this isn`t a nice house? So it's a bad commute to SBP so do you think Jason has a life outside of that place? OR maybe his girl? OR maybe for the future of his children considering he is next door to a school?

One of you guys should buy a house like this and then tell us so we can give you OUR opnion about it. Opinons are great and so the 10 or so comments on this post are great!!! I don't see the need to put others down.

PS: The house went for $3.5M but was listed for $6M

PPS: James, great story!! You`re right, how many 20 year olds can do something like this!?
