Zubov out at least one month

The Dallas Stars announced today that defenseman Sergei Zubov had an arthroscopic procedure on his hip and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. The club also announced that defenseman Philippe Boucher is day-to-day with a sore foot.

Zubov is still an elite defender when healthy, but he was pretty banged up last season, and at 38, injuries might slow him down more than anything. Last time around, it was a hernia issue that kept him out.

The Stars are down some defensive depth after Mattias Norstrom's retirement, and if Boucher's going to miss any time, they'll be pretty darn green on the blueline. Expect Mark Fistric to play a much bigger role this season.

Fistric's role will definitely increase, and despite Dallas's blue-line youth, Niskanen and Grossman proved their maturity with strong seasons last year. Stephane Robidas is nearly to the point where he can be considered a veteran leader. Soon, he'll be the next Boucher or Zubov.
