Rangers win Victoria Cup

New York's Ryan Callahan just scored with 20 seconds left to beat Metallurg Magnitogorsk 4-3 in the inaugural Victoria Cup. New York was down 3-0 late in the second period and rallied with four straight goals.

The game was played in Bern, Switzerland, and was the first meeting between an NHL team and a Russian league one in 17 years. The Rangers apparently receive a $1-million prize for winning the thing.

The New York Times' blog had a good preview of the game and Sam Weinman was live blogging it over at his site. Slap Shot has some photos as well.

UPDATE Scotty Hockey was actually at the game. Now that's dedication to your blog.

So who get the $1,000,000?

I guess I should be more specific. It all goes to the organization?

Do the players get a share? If so, any ramifications with the cap?

Paul Kelly was in Bern to make sure that this prize million is hockey revenue for salary cap purposes. It's also an amount that NHL and NHLPA fat cats spent in business class flights, five-star hotels, six-course meals, and the best red wine, cognac and cigars available in this poor country called Switzerland.

Btw, this game was on TV. MSG feed that you could watch if you have Centre Ice. I watched it and here's few observations:

1)Big ice sucks! It takes away intensity, hits...
2)Russians were stronger than Rangers in 1-on-1 contacts.
3)Rangers looked lost without Jagr, Straka, Shanahan...
4)Too many power plays. This on not (bad word) basketball!
5)Ex-Toronto Karel Pilar was blocking shots like he actually cared. Well, in third period it looked like everybody cared.
6)Lauri Korpikoski looks like he's a real deal. Fast, strong, fearless, hard working...
7)Rangers defence is a joke and therefor playoffs are highly unlikely.
8)Henrik Lundqvist was second best goalie in this game which was worse than regular NHL game to watch.

"Anonymous" is an idiot who bases all his information on 1 PRESEASON game and the only reason there were powerplays was because they're used to playin with 1 ref
