Waiver wire fills up

There are a ton of bodies on waivers today, some of them rather notable. It's interesting to see San Jose waive Kyle McLaren, for instance, after months of speculation that he would be dealt.

Also on waivers in terms of established NHLers: Mark Bell, Boyd Devereaux, Jason Krog, Matt Pettinger, Peter Schaefer, Anders Eriksson, Rhett Warrener, Jamie Lundmark and Aaron Downey. The majority of the players in training camps on tryouts have also been released.

Teams have to get down to a 23-man roster by tomorrow afternoon.

UPDATE Detroit made three of its final cuts: "The Detroit Red Wings trimmed three players from its 29-man training camp roster as Darren Helm, Ville Leino and Jonathan Ericsson were assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins, Detroit’s American Hockey League affiliate."

I'm surprised about Krog. I guess this means that they think Wellwood can have a good year.

I'm still skeptical.

And is Krog really an established NHLer? I thought he was just king of the AHL.

Im surprised by Deveroux. I thought he did a pretty admirable job as a callup last year.

Devereaux became surplus to requirements once Mayers was acquired and John Mitchell had such a strong camp.

He was a great guy and deserves a run-out with another team.

I hope this waiving doesn't effect Devereaux's career in independent music.

Peter Schaefer is definitely the best player of the bunch on waivers. He's definitely only on waivers for one reason: he's overpaid. Same for McLaren. At least you can argue that the rest of the other guys just weren't good enough for their respective teams anymore for anything but a bit part.

Helm and Leino would be on pretty much any other roster.

Should be a heck of an AHL All Star game this year. :-)
