2006 Trade Deadline
Parrish, Sopel join the Kings

Los Angeles Kings acquire forward Mark Parrish and defenceman Brent Sopel from the New York Islanders in exchange for defenceman Denis Grebeshkov, forward Jeff Tambellini and a conditional third round pick.

The rebuilding begins, and this was a good place to start. Tambellini and Grebeshkov are the Kings' first-round picks from 2002 and 2003 and both are having solid seasons in the AHL. The Isles also divest themselves of Sopel, who is due a gaudy $2.4-million next season.
Well, they're going for it, and if Parrish and Sopel do lead the Kings to a decent playoff run, this deal may be worth it. The Kings are a little banged up at the moment, with both Demitra and Frolov in sick bay, and Parrish's 24 goals this season will be a welcome addition. Sopel's salary next season, however, won't be.
