Hockey-Reference sponsorships go live
One of the neat things about Baseball-Reference.com is the fact you can sponsor individual player and team pages, like this one of Blue Jays catcher Gregg Zaun. ("The Z-Man Rulz.")
As of this week, the hockey site, Hockey-Reference.com, has opened sponsorships, so you, too, can own a player/team/coach etc. by putting a funny quip next to their name.
J.P. at Japers' Rink has already ponied up for Alex Ovechkin, while I've sponsored two greats: Wayne Gretzky and Scotty Bowman. Right now, you can get just about anyone you please.
And I've already alerted The Pensblog crew to get on the Gary Roberts entry.
UPDATE A friend has suggested I sponsor this fellow, but I think I'll leave him be.

That's a great business model; I've plunked down my fee to grab Alexander Radulov's page...
Nice stuff. i got Sergei Kostitsyn.
I can just see Gretz on his own page now...
"Oh great, that's how they're going to remember me? The greatest coach? We've simply got to make the playoffs now."
I'm open to suggestions on what his tagline should be. :)
my bank account didn't need to know about this.
I'm going to get drunk and sponsor Nikolai Borschevsky some night, I just know it.
I'm open to suggestions on what his tagline should be. :)
I'll kick in half the fee if you change it to "It was a high stick."
For the love of God, please tell me Peter Ahola is available...
For $10, your name can be next to his Mighty Ahola-ness.
I'll kick in half the fee if you change it to "It was a high stick."
You don't want to know what half the fee is ;)
Yesss. Money is paid for Morrow.
You don't want to know what half the fee is ;)
You don't want to know what you'd have to say about Fraser to get 100%.
Okay, I'll take you up on your offer to switch the tagline. Send me an email if you're serious.
Hockey-Reference should be sponsoring this post, I think.
I was just going to comment on how I didn't think you understood how the sponsorship was supposed to work. They're supposed to refer people to you, not the other way around!
Paul Gaustad is mine. The Goose's Roost will pay its dues.
I got Brett Hedican, to promote my wife's figure skating blog (http://www.bootandblade.com). After all, he's married to Kristi Yamaguchi (sp?).
I got Igor Larionov. I can't really afford the $40, but if I have another glass of wine, I may end up sponsoring Slava Fetisov, too.
Never mind. They want $100 for Fetisov. It'll take about four more glasses of wine before I'd do that. He's worth the price, though. Maybe once I get a job.
Plunked down $10 for Carlo Colaiacovo.
Maybe it will help him be injury free for a couple days.
Pavel Datsyuk was $40, which is too much for a broke college student. Henrik Zetterberg was just $10, so I am sponsoring his page. And then I have to sponsor BTJ favorite Niklas Kronwall. I was upset to see Yzerman's page had already been sponsored. :(
At least it was a nice sponsorship for Yzerman.
I was debating Datsyuk or Lidstrom, and went with Lidstrom.
Now I just have to decide what to say! :)
Down Goes Brown: I'm in for $10 towards "It was a high stick".
You know where to find me.
I want to see more public service messages, like the ones I did for Olie Kolzig and Matt Cooke. This model can be used in so many ways.
I just put $10 in the can for Chad "Chuck Norris of hockey" LaRose.
Sweet!
