Coyotes draft Hextall

I won't profess to know a lot of the names being taken in Round 6 (currently underway), but Phoenix just put B. Hextall up in the middle of the board and that's hard to miss.

Brett Hextall, Ron's son, grew up in California, but plays out in Penticton, B.C., in the BCJHL (Jr. A) where he's a high-scoring forward. Hextall had 72 points in 54 games this season, and turned 20 in early April.

He's a recruit at the University of North Dakota, who did this Q&A with him sometime last year.

Brett was born in Philadelphia four days before the 1988 playoffs started, and his dad's team went on to lose in seven games in the first round to the Capitals. Ron Hextall is now the assistant GM of the Kings.

Hextall is a gritty, hard working player with an edge. Certainly knows how to get under a team's skin. Don't know if he has NHL talent but worth a shot that late.

If he makes it, Brett would be the fourth generation Hextall to make it. Hall of Famer Bryan Hextall Sr. is his great-grandfather, Bryan Jr. is his grandpa; and Ron is his dad. His great uncle Dennis also played in the NHL.

Not sure if I've ever heard of four generations of the same family in any major sport. It'll be interesting to see if the kid can beat 6th-round odds.
